Podcast #6 - Magickal Names
I start off with what’s happening with me, then go in to bounce some ideas off my listeners’ heads. I discuss lavender and it’s properties, then go into some talk about Samhain and the New Year, as well as information on the selection of a Magickal, or Craft, Names.

Hi Tahlea,
Great show! I loved hearing about how you came to find your magickal name and wanted to share how I came to find mine.
I have been on my path for over 15 years but just recently took a magickal name (like you said…take the time to find the right one). I never really saw the need to have a magickal name (and really still don’t feel I “need” to have one).
My name came to me in dreams, after a lot of pondering and thinking about all areas of my life, and after consultation with a dear friend who is also an Elder to me. Over the last 15ish years I have been through many ups and downs in my spiritual life. After having dealt with a more recent, deeply effecting, down I decided that cleansing and a re-invention of sorts was in order. One of the things that came to me was taking on a magickal name to kind of reclaim my personal spiritual power.
Me being a water witch and lover of the sea goddesses…I choose Oseaana.
Me being a tongue-in-cheek kinda gal decided I needed a bit of fun in there to keep everything in perspective…I took the middle name Inara (after the character Inara from the “Firefly” tv series…she is hot!!!)
And me being so in love with my wife and both of our birthday’s and anniversary is in December…I took the last name December.
So there you have it…Oseaana Inara December.
I am not one of those people who get all bent out of shape if people call me by my “real” name (and boy have I meant those kinds of people). I I love my real name…after all my mother gave it to me!
Many blessings!
Oseaana
Hey Tahlea,
Just finished your #6 Pod and catching up on all of your pods.
Glad to hear you are at least moved, did that recently myself, I know how it can be a pain.
Good stuff on magical names, I found mine personally after a spirit quest. Funny thing is I do not use it lots, I keep it for more formal and ritual occasions, although I am glad to share it to whoever asks. I know many people who just blurt it all over the place and think it a little strange, but that is my thing. I also have to say I know many a Raven Song Wolf or Coyote Dark Moon. You mentioned wombats and penguins in your #6 Pod and I had to smile because the wombat is the humorous magical totem of I and my husband, because they burrow *te-he*. Long story there. Also, he and his best friend from his school days love and collect penguins fro their beauty and familial symbology.
We just finished up some public Samhaine celebrations. That is the tradition around here, to have public ritual a few weeks before the actual date, so everyone can be home or with coven for the actual event. I am a member of the Council of Magickal Arts - Texas (www.magickal-arts.org) and the publics were at their annual camp out. Fun stuff really. People from all over the US come down like some modern gathering of the clans to celebrate and party with each other. We have actually had guests from both Europe and Australia. One year, the band Spiral Dance from Australia played as entertainment and left a wealth of great music and joyful memories with us. We were actually discussing their song “Moonlight” one night this past weekend, and how it affected our relationships with the goddess.
In closing, I have to thank you for the great pods and web site. Please keep after it. Your voice is wonderful and your ideas keep me thinking on matters pagan and magical.
All the Best & May the road rise to meet you,
Wil aka the Earl of Stomp
