I disagree. I think sharing spells can be very rewarding. I collect spellbooks and love when they mention a new tool or technique. I think it is valuable, as a witch, to study many different methods and find what works for you. I am a teacher, and I liken it to sharing lesson plans. There is no need to re-invent the wheel every time you teach, it is often very helpful and successful when you take a previously created lesson and tweak it to your own skills, aims and the needs of your students. The same can be of spells, you take what you find from other sources, change it to meet your own needs and the supplies that you have on hand (or are able to get) and voila! A spell that is New to You.

That being said, I DO NOT support selling spells or asking for someone to create one for you. In my opinion, the witch must have embedded something of him or herself in the spell for it to work properly.

Given, I do feel it's a little different in a circle, where you're supposed to be honest, open and trusting of the people you're circling with. But even in those situations, there's spells that you do as a group, and spells that you do on your own. As a solitary, all my spells are of the latter, and therefore I don't feel the need to share.

I'm inclined to agree; I and the priestesses in my circle very rarely share spells. It takes a special kind of situation - when nothing else works - to get us to open up with those secrets. We write our own spells and encourage the practice among our peers, initiates and others seeking help: think of what resonates for you, set an intention, and do the work.
