I personally have been struggling to learn how to cast spells that work in the last few years and agree totally with Fyre; that if you do not share and teach you do not learn and cannot go ahead and advance in any activity, whether it is Craft, lessons, etc... and most importantly in life. We are all here in the same School of Life, and are here to learn until the day we shut our eyes and leave this planet.

I personally love Metaphysical, Paranormal and trying to find how it works. How can I or anyone else who yarns to learn can't, when everyone out in this world is out to make a quick buck in addition does not comply with what they sell anyway or it is just all misleading.

Blessed be,
Blueangel

I agree with PhoenixWitch.

Hoarding magickal knowledge does not insure the growth of our craft. Every person knows their craft, sure, but not all of us know everything. Sharing your knowledge and spells can be extremely beneficial for the whole of the community. It is never good to keep knowledge to yourself UNLESS it can harm others.

I have two BoS. One is for ME, my own personal thoughts, ideas, spells, meditations, and knowledge about myself. The other BoS is about the craft in general. Spells I've collected, rituals I've done and their outcome, general information, and spells I've created.

There is also a BoS for my coven. I'm the High Priest of the coven and I am very strongly for sharing ideas, thoughts, spells, rituals, dreams, etc. with people. You do not have to be in a coven to share these things with people.

Scott Cunningham said it best with his 2nd and 3rd goals of being a witch. Know Your Craft and Learn. I pose a question to you, Tahlea, how could one possibly achieve this if another person is hoarding all of their knowledge?

I do understand that some spells, thoughts, and dreams are highly personal. I do not encourage nor discourage you to share those with people. If something is truly and highly personal, by all means keep it to yourself! However, if its not something that will bare your soul to the world, in my opinion, why not share?

How would ANYBODY learn, if we just kept to ourselves and didn't share information? How long do you believe our Craft could last if we all had the mentality of "Do not share?"

Blessed Be,
Fyre

I believe that what comes around goes around. Whether it is a good or bad spell expect it. We should be promoting love and acceptance as many people who view witches and so forth are always seen in more of a negative light. Let people see us for the good things we can do for ourselves and others.

I disagree. I think sharing spells can be very rewarding. I collect spellbooks and love when they mention a new tool or technique. I think it is valuable, as a witch, to study many different methods and find what works for you. I am a teacher, and I liken it to sharing lesson plans. There is no need to re-invent the wheel every time you teach, it is often very helpful and successful when you take a previously created lesson and tweak it to your own skills, aims and the needs of your students. The same can be of spells, you take what you find from other sources, change it to meet your own needs and the supplies that you have on hand (or are able to get) and voila! A spell that is New to You.

That being said, I DO NOT support selling spells or asking for someone to create one for you. In my opinion, the witch must have embedded something of him or herself in the spell for it to work properly.

Given, I do feel it's a little different in a circle, where you're supposed to be honest, open and trusting of the people you're circling with. But even in those situations, there's spells that you do as a group, and spells that you do on your own. As a solitary, all my spells are of the latter, and therefore I don't feel the need to share.

I'm inclined to agree; I and the priestesses in my circle very rarely share spells. It takes a special kind of situation - when nothing else works - to get us to open up with those secrets. We write our own spells and encourage the practice among our peers, initiates and others seeking help: think of what resonates for you, set an intention, and do the work.
